Mayor Urges School Board Not to Extend Superintendent’s Contract
Jersey City Mayor James Solomon has publicly called on the Board of Education to reject extending the contract of Schools Superintendent Norma Fernandez. In a Wednesday morning letter to the board, Solomon urged against approving a proposed five-year, $1.5 million contract extension for Fernandez, which the board was scheduled to vote on at a Thursday special meeting. The move marks a significant public disagreement between city leadership and the school board over the superintendent's future.
